A native of a French island in the South Pacific, Viviane Bauquet Farre has been an avid cook since the age of six, when she began preparing all her family's meals, perched atop a stool.
Two things influenced Viviane's cooking from the start: Her birth island, a place where mangoes, papayas, taro roots and other exotic fruits and vegetables found their way into otherwise traditional French cuisine; and the extensive traveling around the world she did with her family - at every stop absorbing the vibrant and intense colors, tastes and scents of our great and diverse planet.
When she came to Los Angeles to attend college in the eighties, the restaurant scene was exploding. It is there that she got her first taste of tequila and Mexican food. It was a revelation and a "taste bud" opener for sure, perfectly tying back to her exotic roots and her passion for international foods. Since then, tequila has held a special place in Viviane's repertoire, whether she creates a new cocktail, works it into a recipe or serves it as an after dinner drink. But what she loves most is pairing Tequila in unexpected ways, tantalizing the palate of her guests and readers alike.
Today Viviane lives in the picturesque Hudson River village of Piermont. Since 2005, she has been offering popular, small, hands-on cooking classes in her beautiful home. She also hosts the No Bones! Dinner Club - festive private evenings overflowing with scrumptious courses, each one paired with a special, sommelier-chosen wine. Viviane also produces monthly cooking videos which can be seen on her website, foodandstyle.com. And if that were not enough to keep her busy, she has her own blog where she regularly posts new recipes, cooking tips and techniques, wine pairings, travel anecdotes and other food tidbits. She also writes for The Nyack Villager, for the international online magazine, showcook.com, for localfork.com, an online food community resource and has done many features for Rockland Magazine.
These many threads grow from a single theme, which is Viviane Bauquet Farre's philosophy: Food is love. It enhances our lives in every way. It benefits our bodies, our hearts, our souls. It is a magnificent way to share special moments with family and friends.
